Fuel Filter Stuck, Gas everywhere..... 200 1991

Hi everyone.

I figured that my 91' 240's stalling problem may be being caused by a clogged fuel filter. So I went to autozone, purchased a new one, and got under the car to change it as instructed in the Hays manual. Well, the banjo nuts are on there REALLY tight, and seem almost impossible to remove. I managed to loosen the larger one (the one in front) just enough to cause fuel to start leaking out, but it refuses to loosen any farther. It got dark, and I got sick of cussing at it, so I clamped the fuel line with a pair of vice grips to stop the leaking, and called it a night. After I get home from school tommorow, i'm gonna try and tackle it again, and was wondering how to sucessfully accomplish it. Any advice appriciated.
