squeaky brakes 900 1993

Starting to get some squealing brake noise - not when fully braking, but when I first begin to apply the pedal. When braking gets heavier, it goes away.
'93 945t with ABS.

Had front brakes done when I got the car a year and a half ago. Have done 30k since then, mostly highway driving. Never had rear brakes done, but the noise seems to be coming from the front, anyway.

I know that Volvos have brake squeal problems. I've also seen posts that they also don't have wear strips. Is this accurate? It's snowing in NYC right now and streets are a mess - trying to eliminate possibilities without having to jack her up on a snowbank on Broadway to take a look!

Thanks for any suggestions!

-Ben
