I have an annoying problem which two gararges have been unable (or unwilling!) to diagnose. When driving in a straight line, all is OK. But when taking a left handed bend, I can hear a pulsating/rubbing sound coming from the rear of the car. The problem isn't apparent on a right handed bend!
The faster that I'm travelling, the faster the pulsating effect. I've noticed recently, that if I select reverse, and reverse sharply, there is a noticeable vibration coming from the rear of the car which decreases as I slow down!
Over the last four months, I've had the following components replaced or checked (mainly replaced!)
Brake disc's, front and rear (needed replacing anyway!)
Brake pads, front and rear.
Rear wheel bearings (replaced although old one's were OK!)
Rear axel stripped down, diff stripped down and pinions checked.
Automatic gearbox checked.
Rear inboard bearings checked.
Prop shaft dismantled and checked.
U/J checked (although I'm not 100% happy about it!)
Rear suspension checked.
Various mounts and rubbers checked.
The rubbing/pulsating effect doesn't seem to coincide with the speed of the road wheels, it does seem slower, which makes me think it's more of a drive train problem!
As mentioned previously, the U/J on the prop shaft hasn't been replaced, both gararges saying it was OK! But I've heard that the rubber can go hard and cause similar problems?
As you can see, I've spent quite a bit of my hard earned recently, but I'm keen to get it sorted out as although the car is getting a bit long in the tooth and covered 113 thousand miles, it's in very good condition and has never let me down, I'll probably keep it for another year or so.
Any help will be most appreciated.
