Failed emissions - High NOx - long 200 1984

Last November my non-turbo 84 didn't make it on the treadmill. Surprised me, because I thought I had maintained it well and kept the mixture close with all my ECU and AMM experiments. Tried to get an extension on the Feb. 12 re-test date, but the state's computer knew better than to allow me one, so I struggled yesterday with a replacement cat.

With nobody to entertain but myself I was whistling a tune while beating on the exhaust system. I didn't think much of it as the day turned to evening and a cat turned into a cat pipe and front muffler. Just trying to hook the pins on the rear muffler seemed hilarious as I tried to find a bare spot on the pavement to gain a foothold. So I thought about the tune I'd been whistling over and over - it was the theme to that holiday Lexus commercial with the big red ribbon on the car!

So with the new cat I took the test today:

Test HC CO NOx CO2 (gpm)
Standards 1.8000 30.0000 2.8000 N/A
November 0.7568 5.8748 3.1729 295.5751 Fail
Today 0.0243 0.5256 0.0161 30.8749 Pass

On the way home I found I was entertaining again, but this time it was the 1812 Overture.
