I say keep it if its in good shape and maintained. Got an`86 245 in good cond. coming up on 208k. I do the work myself on it with help from regulars here at the BB. Anything else I`ve ever owned, I never touched until I got mine.
A good reasonable mechanic is sometimes hard to find.
If the car is off to college duty-"snow duty" in upstate NY, it`ll do fine.
And of course, maintenance is still cheaper than payments.
