'95 960 Wagon - Bad Mileage - Stumbling 900

My 960 Wagon has 133K miles and I have owned it for about one year. I have noticed that my mileage was about 15city/22highway when I bought it. Now the car gets about 12city/20highway. The following problem cropped up recently: accelerating from a dead stop causes the engine to stumble for a second, but then it picks up fine; also, if I am coasting at 40-43mph (no pressure on the gas pedal) and then try to accelerate the engine stumbles and then picks up after a couple seconds.

Maybe it was my imagination, but when I changed the oil recently the used oil smelled very "gassy". The exhaust seems to be excessive and smells "gassy" as well.

I haven't done any significant work on the car, but would like to start doing some repair/maintainence work myself. Any suggestions on what to look for to fix the above problems would be appreciated.

Tom
