Jackstand questions 200

I will replace all the rear suspension bushings in my 85 244 soon and will need to buy a jack and stands to do the job. I plan on buying a 3 ton jack with 2 stands from Sears ($60) this weekend.

1) Should that be sufficient for a Volvo. I do not want to skimp on these items as my welfare depends on them not failing. Please makes recommendations if you don't feel they are sufficient.

2) Is it best to use the Volvo jack to get the jackstands under the axle or what is the best technique for this?

3) Is it OK to use the jack on the differential to get the axle slightly off the jackstands? Haynes claims it is OK but several people have warned me not to do this.

4) Some say to use the jackstands under the jackpoints and some the axle. Is one better than the other?

Thanks in advance
