Idle fluxuates after driving... 900 1991

The idle sits perfectly when started and remains fine after a short drive, but after a length of time, the engine revs up to 2,000 or so for a period of time (holds steady) but then returns to normal in random sparatic intervals. This is very noticable in park/nertral and it also noticable in drive (I can feel it giving it's self gas as I coast...) It's a volvo 940, with a turbo. Any help in this matter is appreciated as I don't really know what the cause is.

Thanks in advance,

Jared
