Starts, idles well in cold but stalls as soon as I press the gas 900

Hi all, my new '94 940 wagon (112K) runs generally well. But when starting out on these cold (20 degree) mornings, it starts and idles well, then dies as soon as I press the gas just a little. It re-starts OK (takes just a few cranks more than normal) and will die again unless I push on the gas hard, pump it a little even, it will stumble a little but recover and go normally. This is only a cold-start condition. I imagine there are only a limited number of suspects? Thanks in advance! -- Larry C also known as canoelac
