Help: The engine light came on and produced codes 900

Over the last month or so I thought I noticed some loss of power. The car is downshifting on sections of the highway that it did not downshift on before. Today the engine light came on. The codes I retrieved were 2-1-4 (RPM sensor signal) and 3-1-4 (CMP signal).

Questions:
What is a CMP?
Are the two codes related?
What is the problem?
Should I just have the dealer fix this? (so far I have done all my own work but none electrical)

Thanks all for your help
