Bad air mass meter? 200 1993

Ok, just bought a 93 240, with 76K miles. When I got it, it was stalling the first time it was started each day and reving up and down on its own, then ran fine for the rest of the day. My '89 240 (220K) did the same thing, and was finally diagnosed as a bad air mass meter, replaced and is fine now. However, the '93 has mostly quit the stalling thing, still does occasionally, but its ok if I give it lots of gas when i start it up, but it seems to kinda rev up and down on its own, while I'm driving sometimes. I was planning on replacing the AMM (and the air box thermostat, of course) but I don't want to waste the money and effort if thats not the problem. Any thoughts?
