She's runnin fine, but needs a checkup 200 1992

Hello,

I bought a 92 volvo 240 wagon a few months ago...and we've driven over 3000 miles already (we had 104,000 to start). I know we need an oil change, but what other upkeep should I think about. This is my first car (ever)(and I'm not particularly young, just a city dweller). She seems to be running fine, has been getting a little bit lower gas mileage lately, has a very silentish puttering sound (but she's kind of made it from the beginning), and there is a light on the dash (a circle with an exclamation point in it) that came on one day when I was braking and hasn't come on since. I'm also wondering about good volvo mechanics (not dealers) in Abequerque or Santa Fe, and how I might go about becoming a more savvy volvo driver (as in, not a person without a clue who just drives...I thought about asking a mechanic to watch his/her work...any books I can read?)

Thanks ahead of time for any help, and respectful withholding of judgement on my new car-edness.

Elena
(currently Durango, CO...who usually lives in Brooklyn)
