Door Removal (Wiring) 200 1985

I am preparing to remove the driver's door on a 1985 245 estate (right-hand drive UK model). After stripping off all the trim and uncoupling most of the electrical stuff (speaker, central locking), I found that the window winding motor wiring does not appear to have any obvious connectors. The wires are soldered onto the motor terminals and crimped in to the door's operating switch with the rest of the wiring disappearing into the body; I presume heading straight to the fuse box. If I have read the Haynes manual correctly, it suggests cutting the wires! I'm always reluctant to cut wires so have I assessed the situation correctly?
