Craig, the 1968 and later Volkswagens used one that looks identical and I have used them interchangably over the yrs. You can chk. them for functioning... system voltage in, (12 to 15V) and should have slightly pulsing 9 Volts out. Chk. for system voltage on the input side, you may not have anything going in. hth Tom
