Hi I have a 1985 245 turbo and it has been acting wierd. First I pulled
my 5 month old plugs to find them white tipped. I looked this up and
found that it could be a sticky valve, the wrong plug, or the wrong fuel
mixture. I bought a air to fuel ratio guage that is connected to the O2
sensor. When the car is cold the car will not run smoothly until it
warms up. I have to keep my foot on the gas and keep it a 1800 rpms
until the engine is warm. Right before the engine gets warm enough the
car makes loud clunking noises. Each time it clunks the air to fuel
ratio gauge jumps into the lean section. When the clunking stops i can
let the gas off.
Also when the car is accelerating up a hill or fast the
car will studder between accelerating and not. I was wondering if one or
both of these are caused by the valves sticking. Also could a bunch of
crumpling vaccum hoses do any of this? Thanks ahead of time. I have been
struggling with this problem for a year and I'm about to give up and
sell the car because I don't have money to fix it. Please someone help
me!!!
