Starter Problem 700 1989

You've either got no power to the starter, from perhaps a bad battery cable terminal, or the neutral safety switch is not aligned right or has failed.
Try holding the key in START while moving the shift lever to neutral and back. IF it starts while you do that, it's out of adjustment. I also fixed an 88 245 last month where the switch somehow got disconnected from the pin on the side of the shifter. Unscrewed it, reattached, and added 2 washers behind it as shims to prevent it from slipping out of the white plastic hook on the neutral safety switch. To get at this in a 740, you have to remove the console tray. See the FAQ.
