Climate Control causes Limp-home (am I hallucinating ?) 700

Tonight, driving home at highway speed at -20C, everything was great until I switched the ACC setting from defrost to floor, at which point the car seemed to go into limp-home mode, that is, as soon as I accelerated to the point where the turbo meter showed positive pressure, the engine would die until I let off the gas. Those same symptoms occured twice before in the last year in similar temperatures and I then thought the coincidence to be too far fetched. I'm usually only able to get 70 KPH when this occurs.
Tonight, the problem seemed to rectify itself when I re-started the engine.
Is there something to this? The car is an 88 760 turbo.
