Did I Commit a 'NO NO' with my muffler?? 700 1989

OK, here's the deal...I can't stand to throw away servicable parts. So now for the story... I replaced the entire muffler system (cat.-back) on wifemobile. 93 245.
BUT the front muffler was not rotted at all. My 89 740 needed the rear muffler. I had a muffler shop weld on this muffler in place. However, the only way it would fit was to install it BACKWARDS. With a new straight pipe out the back. Car sounds great,no loss of power, etc.
Did I commit a venial or mortal sin? Or am I a saint for saving the earth's resources?
