'91 740 Wagon - Very slow Fuel Guage Response 700

Has anyone seen this problem? About a year ago, I had to replace the fuel pump in my wife's 740 wagon (1991). Recently a problem has developed where the fuel guage is very slow reponding when I put fuel in the tank. When I fill up the tank, instead of immediately indicating full, it will sit on (or below) half and very gradually climb up and show what I'm guessing is the actual ullage. Could this possibly be caused by a bad ground connection?
