Poor Performance 700 1987

I have 87 740T wagon (223Km) and lately it seems a little sluggish. I was reading the FAQ's and I was think'in Knock Sensor, but I called the deal ($140CDN) and the guy thinks that's unlikely..."very rare that it goes".

Basically the car runs fine except when I'm going uphill(under load) the boost gage moves into the yellow, but the car doesn't really accelerate, seems gutless until I stomp on it and the tranny drops down and then I get some acceleration. I think the MPG is sorta poor now too, but haven't really tracked it.

Any thoughts?
