The add says V6 200 1989

Could be a misprint, could be a PRV swap, could be some non Volvo engine, etc. Heck, I see people advertising Volvos with V4s all the time (the only automotive V4 that comes to mind is that Saab).

With the PRV (B27, B28, B280), there are a few things to keep in mind. Apparently the older ones (B27, to a lesser extent the B28) were prone to self destruction... and the newer ones (B280) not so much. However, they're still vastly more complicated and esoteric in design than the red block four cylinder (or, dare I say the diesel). They hold a larger amount of oil (around 7qts or so), so oil changes (and you should be running synthetic anyhow) can be pricey. The V6 is not nearly as common as the four cylinder so finding some parts may be a bit difficult. In general the engine just looks more intimidating. I wouldn't be afraid so much of the cost (and yes, some parts are amazingly more expensive, especially on the B280s) as I would the learning curve. But if you're up for a challenge, I say go for it.
