ECT removal alternative? 700 1985

It seems to me I read a recent post where someone had an alternative removal procedure for the ECT that didn't involve removing the intake manifold. Now I can't seem to find it (should have saved). I know in the FAQ it recommends taking the intake off, however with the weather being as unpredictable as it has been here, and no garage, I would like to consider a shorter procedure. If anyone knows what Im talking about or has a link to the original post it would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.
