Red Line oil??

Redline uses a base oil/additive package not found in most other synthetic oils. Redline has uses an excellent base oil and additive package, that many believe is the best on the market. Redline uses a primarily "Ester" base oil package. Esters have a natural cleaning ability. Mobil 1 uses a primarily PAO (polyalphaolefin) base oil package. Exxon/Mobil Corp. makes PAO synthetic base that they use in their own synthetic products and they also sell PAO's to other oil companies, which blend it into their own products.

Both are fully synthetic oils. Mobil 1 is very good, Redline is great. I suspect you will have lower wear numbers using either Mobil 1 0w40 or Redline 5w40, especially in the turbo. (Mobil 1 xx30 weights run on the lower side of a 30 weight, bordering on a 20 weight oil actually.) Both of the xx40 weights mentioned are suitable for all seasons, except of course the Yukon. Both flow very well in frigid temperatures and protect very well at running temperature. I use both of these brands in those weights in my Volvos, with great success. Use a Volvo/Mann filter.

Redline oils leave an uncommon persistent stain unlike others.
