Engine sputters after running 1hr 200 1982

Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone out there had any thoughts on my latest mystery. After a year or so of listening to a moaning, groaning fuel pump, I was prompted to take action after the engine would start sputtering and lose power after running about an hour. This would continue getting worse at all engine loads (including idle) until it was shut off and allowed to cool.

I replaced the in-tank pre-pump (with the 700 series upgrade) and the fuel pump noise disapeared. Drivability problems remained. So I changed the main pump and the fuel filter, figuring they had gone south. No dice, still sputtering away.

Another, perhaps related tidbit: the car was driven for about 6months with a faulty voltage regulator that was running things at up to 16v.

Any ideas? Heat related electrical or fuel problems? I'm stumped...

Greg
