1982 Steering rack WAGON

Stick your head under the front of the car and examine the accordion style boot that surrounds each tie rod. The small diameter end of the boot goes over the tie rod, the large diameter end is around the rack.

If you have a Cam rack, the small end fits around the tie rod.

If you have a ZF rack, the small end fits around a plastic disc, which is about 1" diameter. The disc is around the tie rod.

You can interchange one rack for the other providing you also steal the mounting brackets from the donor car. That is, keep the ZF brackets with the ZF rack, Cam brackets with Cam rack. The mounting holes in the cross member are the same and the hydraulic fitting are the same.

The tie rods are unique to the rack insofar as they attach to the rack. But the tie rod ends are identical.
