3 Blown Starters? 700 1986

I blew out 3 starters in a similar time frame on my 93 240 but the failure mode was more like they mechanical blew up rather than electrically fried. The pinion gear stripped or even the whole starter casting breaking. It was worn teeth on the flexplate (ringgear) that allowed the starter to skip a tooth and get jammed. Replaced the flexplate and it was fixed. I supppose if yours was getting jammed due to worn teeth it could account for the failures.
