88 740 turbo question. 700 1988

Hello all
I have been spending a lot of time on the 200 forum due to the 83 and 84 245's that I currently have. I am thinking about purchasing a 1988 740 wagon with turbo.
The question I have is how reliable is the turbo? how long can I expect it to last? and how much can it be replaced for? I got our 88 245 with the idea of reliability and it has not let me down yet. The 83 however is giving me fits. I am spending more money on that car than it is problably worth. I am thinking of getting 740 for wife and I will take over her 88 245.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
