B20 cylinder heads 120-130

Hello there everyone,
It's been a long time since I fiddled with my old volvo as it's in storage and me being on the move all the time. I would like to get back into the fun of increasing the performance of the b20 and here's the question.
Many, many years ago, I was given a ported cylinder head and told it was as good as a fuel injected head except without the injector holes.
Looking at the head, where the injector ports would be, there is just the flat bosses and was wondering if this is normal or was I fed a line in believing it's something special?
Unfortunately I don't have access to the car so I can't look for numbers.
Ultimately I'm asking if there is a performance head out there other than finding a fuel-injected head and blocking off the injector ports?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice.
