I believe it about that red. I notice every other one that color, and there are a bunch on the road (wish more would come into the junkyard - I need a quick fix to a dented door and a rusted hood) but never have I seen one as flat matte as mine. There's an 84 GL that color I see every day that makes me want to compliment the owner on devoting garage space to the old Volvo.
Spray can primers.
By the way, I primed the fiberglass repairs I did in the rear wheel wells with the red primer and it turns out to be a close enough match to the top color to suit me. A bit of clear over it seems to make it match the "texture".
I've painted three cars backyard style in years gone by and only one of them drew compliments. I stink at that - even using all the latest from DuPont at the time. More recently, like 10 years ago, I wet sanded and touched up a few dings on a junker white Citation (!) and took it to the Maaco franchise in Baltimore. Did the prep work with some care; I didn't want my daughter to reject it out of hand. The Maaco guys made me initial the fact "customer did his own body work" on the invoice before accepting the car to repaint it white. The outcome was amazing (to me) no flaking, hard to find overspray, shiny new looking paint that lasted another 100K and four years before selling. I just used the Duplicolor primer from the Kmart.
