OK, so my 82 non-turbo died about a quarter mile from my apartment. I thought it just ran out of gas (gauge is broken). AAA brought me a gallon of that ridiculously expensive fuel, but the car still didn't start. We pulled off the coil wire and apparently there's no spark (don't ask me how he figured that out). My roomates and I then proceeded to push the car back to the apartment, but as they were pushing I gave it another go with just the starter (clutch disengaged) and it fired right up! I was so excited, but just as I turned into the parking lot she died again. I ended up having to push her into the parking spot. Now it won't start. Here's the facts, let me hear your interpretations:
It still turns over, the radio comes on, and all the fuses under the dash are good. The ignition system was almost entirely replaced in January (coil, module, dist, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, alternator), but the coil and module are apparently used parts (don't yell at me, the previous owner had it done). I checked the coil wire--the contacts look OK. I dumbfounded because of the fact that it started up again, but now it won't. It doesn't seem like that would happen if something got totally fried. I have a warrantee for all that ignition repair work, but I'll still have to shell out a buttload for towing. It'd be cheaper to just replace the coil, but how can I tell if that's the problem?
