Cold start injectors? 200 1984

I'm a fairly new owner of a '84 245Ti so there is much, much more I need to learn and experience.I did just order a Hayne's manual for the 240(I'll be getting it here soon).I will also try to get a Bently manual if I can find one for a half descent price....Anyway, does this car have cold start injector or something similar that helps it start in the morning? When I bought the car, the previous owner told me to hold the pedal down 1/2 way and crank for about 10 seconds before it starts, and it does start everytime but I'm thinking fuel injected cars do not need to have the accellerator held down when cranking..Does any of this sound familiar? Any suggestions what it might be?
