would like to install AM/FM CD player on 6volt system 1961


I would think it would be fine for the average low to medium power CD unit, could be an issue on high output setups though.

I dare say that the best way to track down more info on doing this (and find others who have done it) would be to find a VW posting board, I'd bet you would find heaps of old VW owners who have gone through this in much more detail than anyone else has.
They probally know of more converters etc that are up to the job too.

I know at least one guy who had put a CD player in a 6 Volt beetle, never asked how he did it, but it seemed like quite a normal thing to him.
