seat - large adjust knob fell off, how to put back? 200 1989

240 DL 1989 sedan.

I noticed the large adjust knob on the passenger seat (that reclines the seat) was on the back floor... soemhow it fell off.

I look at it and seems like it has a pressure clip hloding it to the center shaft. The clip is in the knob, and the knob seems to look like an integral molded piece of plastic. Does it come apart somehow?

How can I get to the clip to re-clip it?

My description is unclear i know, you likely won't understand unless this happened to you...
