I'm coming from Alfa's, and the Alfa Digest. This format is different, so my appologies in advance if I commit a forum faux pas.
I recently bought an '87 740 turbo. It was running a little rough, but it was cheap. I've spent a week trying to figure out why it's only firing on #3 and 4, to no avail.
I checked the plugs on the injectors, and they're all getting a signal. I swapped the front 2 injectors with the rear ones, and it made no difference. Therefore, I've ruled out the injectors, the wiring, and the ECU.
I've put a timing light on all 4 plug wires and the light flashed, so I've ruled out the wires, cap, and rotor.
As a last resort, I checked the cam timing. The sticker under the hood indicates that the timing belt was changed less than 4k miles ago, and sure enough all the marks are lined up.
Now I'm lost. The plugs in #1 and 2 are always fuel soaked when I pull them out, so it's obviously getting fuel. The plugs and plug wires work fine when I swap them to the rear 2 cylinders, so it can't be either of them. If it's not the plugs, not the wires, not the rotor, not the cap, and not the injectors, what else could it be? No matter what I do, it's only the front 2 cylinders that won't fires. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
Bryan
