It wouldn't start! 700

Today I finished installing the 1991 B230FT in my project 760T. I hooked everything up and turned the key. It cranked fine but would not start, not even a sputter. Hmmmm....

I started checking the obvious items. First I loosened the fuel inlet line at the fuel rail. Okay, lots of gasoline under pressure. The tach needle had bounced while I tried to start it, and the fuel indicated the Fuel Pump Relay and fuel pumps were working.

I usually work by myself, and asking the wife.mil to come out in the garage and turn the key while I watch for spark is not a smart for me to do. Never, I repeat never, disturb a grizzly bear just after eating. I have to do most testing and fixing by myself. So, I unplugged the Hall effect connector from the distributor and plugged it into a spare distributor. I took the coil wire out of the distributor cap and laid it on the cam cover while I spun the spare distrubutor shaft in my fingers. I had lots of spark. Next I pulled a spark plug. It didn't look wet and I couldn't detect any smell of gas. Hmmmm...

Next I spun the distributor shaft while I listed for the injectors to click. I couldn't hear them, but the fuel pumps start as soon as you spin the distributor shaft and that makes hearing difficult. I unplugged all the fuel injector electrical connectors and got a spare injector and plugged it into the electrical connector. When I spun the distributor I had clicking. I plugged the electrical connector back into an injector on the engine. No clicking. I then tried the rest of the injectors and none of them clicked. Problem found, the injectors weren't opening.

Next I got a spare fuel rail with injectors and tested the injectors individually while I spun the distributor shaft. They all clicked. My test set up is shown below.

I did find this problem with one fuel injector connector during the test,

Notice how one electrical fitting is pushed back in the connector. When I removed the connector it looked like this:

I finished installing the spare fuel rail with injectors and the car fired right up. Sitting for a couple of years caused the other injectors to seize up. I don't know if it is from old, gummy gas, or moisture from having the system open. It really doesn't matter, those injectors are going in the garbage can.
