Front muffler on 72 1800e 1800 1972

I have a 72 1800E with the 3 muffler setup. My exuast system is all new except for the front muffler, but it too now has a hole in it. I must replace it, but it seems to be more rare and much more expensive than the other two mufflers in the system. Is it so special that I have to use the correct OEM muffler or can I just match up a simaler but much cheaper muffler that might be made for another car? Also is that muffler of a straight through design or is it made with baffles and chambers?
