The rubber will gum up your grinder and fight you all the way.

Also, you will still be left with the problem of installing the new one. You may be able to press it in by hand if you polish the rings and if you can get a good temperature differential between the bushing (cold) and the support rings (hot).

I suspect that in the time it would take you to grind and cut the old bushing, you can make a bushing press tool from iron plumbing fixtures.
