Acceleration Problem - Intermittent 200 1987

I have a 1987 244 GL. It has an automatic transmission with OD. Here's the problem. Without warning, I can go down the road with fine acceleration and then if I try to give it more gas to accelerate up a hill or to pass or for whatever reason, it bogs down. If I pull over, shut off the car and turn it on again, the problem is resolved until the next time.

Some good friends own a Volvo/Mercedes repair shop. They have kindly allowed me to swap out the electronic air metering unit, the computer by the radiator (passenger side) and the computer under the dash (passenger side). Each time I swapped out one of these, the problem seemed to go away, but briefly. Then I would swap another of the parts, and it seemed to go away... briefly.

You can never anticipate when this is going to happen. Are there any suggestions or questions?

Thanks!
Tom
