Fuse #8 problem 200 1983

Hello again, all.
Here's this week's question: I was having a problem with fuse #8. the problem was that after a few minutes, this fuse would violently self-destruct.
I tracked this down with the very valuable assistance of a friend, and now I want to see if anyone else has had the same issue or knows how I can make this problem go away. The green wires with a red sheath that operate the overhead dome light are where my short is. When I touched the contact to a higher-amp fuse, it seemed to work just fine. (i.e. dimmer functioned properly, light worked just like it's supposed to, etc)
I really don't want to try to pull apart half the A-pillar and roof liner to find this out, but if I have to.....
Thanks in advance.
