How much pressure is acceptable? 700 1990

Richard,
I think you have an excellent question. I have am 88 740t with 238k. In order to prevent any future oil leaks and to maintain perofrmance I throughly cleaned out the PCV system only to have the oil filler cap "dance" just like you said yours does afterwards. Also, does it matter which cap you have, plastic or metal? I have the plastic cap.
I was left only to conclude that something else is making positive pressure and with my engine having that many miles on it I though that the rings would be worn enough to allow this.
My question would be then, how much positive pressure is acceptable on an older engine?
