I think that, by and large, radar detectors are useless. There are many other accurate ways to determine how fast a vehicle is travelling - remember that radar technology is relatively new. If you are driving ten or fifteeen miles an hour in excess of the mean speed, you will stick out like a sore thumb. Radar is not going to do you much good in this case, except to alert you to the fact that you are about to be pulled over and cited. :-)
