electRical quandary

I definately looked there but it may indeed be that there is a weak connection. I'm running out of wire brush! Nearby the distribution box I did find a hot lead that was not connected to anything. Without looking to double check I believe it had a double female connection, incompatible with the distribution box. I'm not sure where it leads but my hunch is that it runs through the firewall and hangs out under the steering wheel where I found a similar (same?) wire while fishing out my (not broken) fuel pump relay.

Oh the reason I mentioned the ignition switch may be a bigger clue than I first thought. When I first purchased the car I had random problems with the radio and some other things coming on. I soon discovered that there was some play in the key's position, and turning the key slightly counterclockwise made everything work normally. I had a new key made and with that key everything works much better.

Today when I returned from work I turned the key towards the off position to where it should have stopped but it kept going... I guess there's just more play in this switch than a new one but it's a couple signs that the switch may have something to do with all my defunct functions. I'll have to study the schematic some to test this hypothesis.

Any idea how hard it is to change the ignition on this car, or at least access it to check out the switch?

Thanks so much for your help.
Mike
