oil filter adaptor o-ring replacemant 700 1989

Last Sunday it was time to do an oil change so I ordered the two large o-rings from IPS in Boise,Idaho(Great People),one between the block and adaptor and the other between the adaptor and the oil cooler thermostat unit. After lying on my back on the garage floor it appeared that by removing the entire r/h motormount and wheel this would allow easy access, and it did;the job took around 1.5 hours including changing the oil and doing some clean up.I would recommend to clean around these area's before attempting this job to keep any fallen debree entering critical areas.I placed a 2x4 at the point that the power steeringpump mounts to the block and used an old screw jack to lift the engine up enough to remove the entire mount assembly,it came out the back after turning and rotating it.I then removed the oil cooler lines from the thermostat unit and removed the oil filter to access the 29mm nut that holds the thermostat unit to the adaptor,I only loosened the nut so it was finger tight, the reason I did this was so after I removed the small bolt that that holds a small bracket to the adaptor and the large 32mm bolt that holds the adaptor to the block you can remove the entire unit as an assembly, since the nut is loose on the thermostat unit you can rotate it enough to get around the turbo oil return pipe.If you do this in reverse order this works great because this method keeps the new oring in place between the adaptor and the thremostat unit while reinstalling it as an assembly, after you install the new orings remember to only finger tighten the 29mm nut that holds the thermostat unit to the adaptor unit so you can rotate the thermostat unit arounf the turbo oil return pipe. Then you can install the 32mm bolt and sealing washer into the block and finger tighten for now untill all brackets and cooler lines are finger tight then tighen the 32mm bolt and all the other lines and brackets.I hope all this helps this bulleton board, this is a great board!
