My 740 Saloon does that when driven enthusiastically round tight corners. I know there is a fault with the in tank pump because I checked it. Haven't got round to fixing it yet tho (bad man). The engine cuts out due to no fuel and if I'm in the middle of changing gear the engine stops. All dash lights come on, but once I'm in a straight line and dump the clutch it's back online. I keep the tank brimmed to stop this and I know when to refill when it starts cutting on corners again. Should really fix it some day.......
I dont know if the engine will cut with an automatic transmission tho. Never used one in these circumstances.
