OD relay wired wrong? 200 1983

Your OD relay is OK, it's doing what it is supposed to do. Light on means OD on, right? Well, that's the way a standard shift OD relay works.

Your PO apparently changed relays without knowing that they are NOT the same for a M46/47 and the AW70/71. The two are colored different, and danged if I know which is which.

Cruise a recycle yard and see if you can spot the difference. There was a change made between 1984 and 1985 models, too.

A solution, BTDT, is to put a SPDT relay in the light circuit. Wire it so that the light wire from the OD relay closes the new relay, and the wire to the light itself feeds from the new relay NO contacts.

Easiest - get the right relay.

BTW If that's not the problem something really weird is going on. Have wiring harness checked for poltergeists.

Good Luck,

Bob
