Battery Not Charging 1995

Bought my first Volvo last year a 1995 850 Turbo. Big change for me. My play cars are usually British, Jaguars (XJ6s)mostly (so I am used to electrical problems) and Triumph TR-7, and for the day to day Toyotas. Pleased with the 850 except that the battery keeps dying. Since it was bought second hand changed to a new battery and still no luck. Checked all possible lights being left on, still no luck. Took it to my mechanic, who knows volvos and still no luck. Checked the archives on the BrickBoard and found occasional similiar problems but no solutions. Does anyone have any solutions to this perplexing problem besides unhooking the battery every time I leave it for a couple of days???
