Which side of ex gasket faces head? 700 1988

The FAQ explains that the gaskets must be oriented properly as they are not symmetrical. This becomes obvious as they won't match the ports properly if they're rotated 180 degrees.

I'm not sure which side of the gasket to present to the head. One side is metal, the other fiber with the metal pressed through the port cutout. The old ones had the gasket's metal surface facing the manifold. Correct?.
