Ah yes,

Was there yesterday. In order to get the plastic retaining ring on, I needed a helper to push the assembly from inside the car while I had the retaining ring crammed in the firewall opening.

Mine popped loose.

I think it is a pretty lousy design to begin with. When I try again, I'll try hunting up some parts so that maybe I can use some sort of threaded collar with a nut on the firewall engine bay side. I know there's no room to get a wrench in there but maybe finger tight and some loc-tite will do it.
