heavy steering '87 245 200 1987

Juat a couple of days ago, i started to notice my steering feeling a bit heavy. There seems to be an easy area to turn when the wheels are straight, but to either side it gets harder to turn as if I had no power steering. The steering rack was replaced less than a year ago, and there is plenty of fluid in the fluid resevoir, so I'm guessing the pump is bad? Is thare any way to test this? Or could it be something in the steering column?

If anyone has any knowledge of this problem, please let me know. Thanks, Johan
