I do not know how old the plugs are. My guess is they're around, maybe 50-60,000 miles old. They were coated with a somewhat light grey burned-on type coating. Does that seem normal? Way back in the day when I drove cars that were more worn out the plugs were often fouled with oil.

So it sounds like you think the plugs made the difference, not the dist cap?
